Dreary Rainy Days

Can you believe the amount of clouds in that photo?  I think we are on the third day of sunless skies.  I'm starting to wish for a ray to poke through and shine.  Just a little tiny wee one :)  Cloudy days are easy to photograph in, no sun to fight with, no changing angles, no changing camera settings or heading under a tree for shade.

Yesterday was endlessly rainy, dreary, and humid.  I watched the rainfall with Frodo, me sighing and wondering when the sun would peek out.  He wanted to be outside, but drizzle is all he can tolerate-downpours are just not fun.  I know now that the duck pond probably has more than enough water after the past two days!

Rainy days lead to some extra cleaning in the house, a little bit of daydreaming about the upcoming holidays and having all my children home.  I browsed through some patterns on Ravelry looking for ideas never settling on one, however I have some new thoughts for presents.

Each fall I think of what is my favorite color of leaves.  Orange, yellow, red, brown, purple.....I like them all-lately I've been enjoying the orange ones with hints of red, or yellow with hints of orange.  I notice something new each season and I love how nature provides us with beauty that we can bask in.  I don't like rainy days but I do like how all the colors are brighter, shinier and bolder because of the rain.  Because of the wind, more leaves are on the ground-all sorts mingled together--maple, birch, oak, sassafras, locust, and walnut.  Swirled together creating a nature bouquet.

All too soon the leaves will be gone.  So each day I am outside, I take a photo and savor the now.

  1. Looks just like our weather the last few days. We've also had fog quite often which is unusal not very welcome at all at this time of the year.

  2. We had a brief peek of sun the other day, but have been buried in clouds, drizzle and rain too. I actually don't mind it, but I know I'm in the minority ;-).

  3. I hear you; though I admit I loved the sound of rain this morning... perfect morning for toast, hot chocolate or tea...

  4. Yep fall is here too and also the rain...I appreciate it though because there is more time inside for projects. Lots of out door things lately I miss the coziness of inside.
Beautiful fall images...enjoy the rest of your week Karen.

  5. Same here - cloudy, dreary and wet. :-( We are being told that it should all be over by tomorrow, guess we'll see... Have a great weekend!

  6. It has been the same here too. They say we might just see a little peek of sunshine this afternoon, I have my fingers crossed :)

  7. We've had bouts of sunshine here for the first time in 4 days, and it's like everyone's suddenly come to life again. I don't mind it cold, but the constant dreariness - where you couldn't tell if it was morning, afternoon, or evening - was really getting to me.

Your autumn leaves look lovely, though. Such rich colours.

    1. I love the cold but the dreary can get to me. I try to ignore it but it's just there outside my window!!

  8. Here on the other side of the country we are hoping for some sun to peek through the clouds, too. The trees are in varying shades of gold (red is rare) and the leaves are flying through the air, drifting on currents, and swirling in the winds. It is a blustery fall day.

  9. Some beautiful seasonal photos, I too have spent some time outside today while we had a break in the weather (no rain) to tidy up the garden.

  10. Those clouds passed through here the other day and brought with them heavy rain, lightening, thunder and 76 mph winds, not fun. Right now it is blue bird skies and a temperature of 67 degrees, I am in heaven!

  11. We had some sun yesterday but today is downright nasty! I find myself taking photos of the leaves too knowing they will be gone from the trees all too soon.

  12. I was beginning to think we lived in Seattle! It was so cloudy and drizzly for several days. The sun finally came out yesterday. I have been ordering me some bamboo knitting needles of various sizes and looking through patterns at Ravelry to find something easy to start with... found a few things, not sure how that will go... :))
The leaves are really beautiful this year!

  14. Nice photos, Karen. Those cloudy skies are typical Seattle days! What were your gift idea discoveries?

  15. Love the beautiful colors in your photos. We've had rain here too that brought cool temperatures.

  16. "Savor the now" we all need to remind ourselves to do that a little more.

I am jealous of your seasons and weather as we will be lucky to find any relief from the drought soon. I'm grateful just for an overcast day or some condensation on the car windows in the morning. ha!

  17. Great post! We have had dark and rainy days here for the last week, and I must admit that at times it has made my mood match the skies. Frodo is much braver than my dog Fergus if he will go out in the drizzle. One raindrop is enough to make him head straight back for the door. :-)

  20. Hi Karen! I got together a bunch of leaves too, all different colors. I used to like red the most, then I moved onto the bright yellow. So many lovely changes in color...it's hard to pick just one!

  21. Autumn is so very brief. Just today I was driving down my road and thought how quickly the leaves are dropping now, and that soon they will all be gone :(
