How was your weekend?  Are you ready for Christmas??  Getting there?  I am amazed we are half way through advent.  Friday night was quiet and at home, doing some knitting and relaxing.


Saturday was more of the same.  I assessed the presents and what is left to arrive on my doorstep.  I might have to get "one" more gift.  Maybe.  For years I've been the kind of person that is done shopping at least one week or sometimes two weeks before Christmas.  I don't like crowds of people or that frantic feeling of picking something.  I like to mull it over, take my time.


Anyways, back to my Saturday, we went out to shop for my husband's secretaries and then a dinner out.  Both activities, gift giving and eating were fun.  Speaking of gift giving....today was our knitting group's gift exchange.  Let's just say that exchanging with like minded people is fibery fun.  I'm still looking over my gifts and sighing with happiness.  So much goodness, I'm lucky to have these women as my close friends and to share a beloved hobby.


On a side note, I have searched high and low for a "first Christmas" ornament for the newlyweds.  Finally this past week I found one and it's not breakable!  A must for flying home in a suitcase and lasting for many many happily married years.  I look at my first Christmas ornament that my mother gave me 28 YEARS ago EEP.  

That third photo is me be-sequined by my grandmother as a gift for Christmas when I was ungrateful and wished it was a toy instead.  Now I'm grateful!  I love that ornament and the time she took to make it for me.  The last photo are ornaments of my kids when they each were in second grade.  Their teacher made them for us moms and dads.  Another thoughtful gift and I am very very careful to not break them...I wish they weren't fragile.

    It was a good weekend. I set home a few ornaments with my son yesterday, kind of bittersweet, but as a mama I know you understand. I also got in some Porter loving!!!

    The weekend was a little bit of busy and a little bit of calm. We've had some very mild weather in Virginia. Your ornaments are so pretty! Here's to a week that is a little bit of busy and hopefully a little bit of calm :)

    I love your ornaments! The ones with pictures are treasures, aren't they? We haven't put up a big tree this year because of our curious little tiger, but we have a tiny tabletop one, and there will be one at my family celebration, featuring lots of ornaments we made as children and ones we have loved for many years. So much fun! We have had a lovely weekend of walks in town and baby laughter:)

    Your ornaments are just adorable...especially the sheep. Since my husband and I married during the Christmas season, I collect an ornament to commemorate the year. So far we have quite a collection ... and of course the first Christmas for all 3 of my children are very, very special. My weekend has been good...enjoying these warm temperatures here in the mountains of PA... mari

    Beautiful memories that are treasured each year as the ornaments are unwrapped is one of the highlights of my Christmas, remembering them with family members is even better. Enjoy!

    There are so many memories tied up with Christmas decorations aren't there? I remember the first year my husband and I had a tree we had nothing to decorate it with. In my head I wanted to go to the box from my childhood and decorate from that :)

    My husband and I enjoyed looking at our "1st" ornaments from when we started dating in 1986 and married in 1989. It really is difficult to find ones that won't break. I just bought one for a friends daughter who just got engaged and had the same problem. You have some real pretty ornaments Karen. Very special.

    I love that each of our decorations have a story to tell. It gets easier and easier to dress the tree because they seem just go in the right place. I hate that manic last minute shop and love that a lot of it can be homemade or bought on line. Although I do like to pop and see the shops all sparkly with lights just before they close for the evening.

    Love your recap. The weekend was great. Not working is the BEST way to spend a weekend. Family birthdays celebrated last night. Crazy .
    VIsited my mom in the nursing home Saturday and brought staff treats. She is sweet but coudlnt speak well at all .

    I love your tree! Most of our ornaments are handmade or have stories attached, and it's so nice to pull them out every year and have those memories. Last year I had to do a bit of tape reinforcement on some of my construction paper ornaments from over twenty years ago, and they're still on the tree this year!

    I always love reading your weekend updates, Karen! I just returned home from an amazing trip down the Danube River with a good friend. Her husband was unable to go so she asked if I would join her...how could I say no? : ) We had a great time. I love your tree ornaments! I arrived home to find our tree set up and decorated by my husband and middle daughter. It's lovely! Have a wonderful week! xx

    I love to look at all the ornaments that have meaning to me, ones my kids made , kids made and gave to me, my parents gifts and in-laws gifts. Oh, I can get lost in it all! Your memories I’m sure are so close to your heart! Lovely!!!!!

    What a great array of ornaments. The first pic is my fave w/those fibery and needlepoint like ones. I recall making a few in school but I don't think they lasted as they're not on our tree. I love making little gifts for school staff and seeing their eyes light up in surprise and gratitude.

Knitting News

  Good morning to you! How are you? I'm excited about my hat that I've been knitting enjoying the sea of stockinette stitches. When I first started the hat I thought it would be too small, now I wonder if it will be too big. Gah. I will find out soon I guess. I wish the photo about showed how beautiful the colors are in real life, you'll have to trust me on this! Below is my next knitting project, the habitation throw . I will definitely use the pink and gray, I'm still not sure about that purple, I might have a look-see in my stash and do another ponder about that color. I chose this pattern because I can use up some of my stash and I adore Helen Stewart's patterns. What are you working on this week? Also: I will probably not be posting this Friday and the following Monday because of my family visiting. I hope to be back next Wednesday (unless I change my mind).
