Yarn Along

When we were traveling across Pennsylvania and we stopped to see our daughter, I was lucky to borrow the new Rowling book that she had just finished reading.  I am so excited to see how Rowling writes for adults, I started last night and did not fall asleep which is a very good indicator.  I think this is going to be a really good read :)
I finished my Buddha Standard Time book and I did like it over all.  At times the author seemed to repeat many ideas but the little meditation prompts that are scattered through the book are helpful.  I think anyone who wants to be in the moment could benefit from the book.

As you can see, I've started another wurm hat.  While I was at the cabin, I wore my green wurm hat every single time we went out.  I wanted another one and another one all in different colors!  For some reason my hair did not get all wonky like it usually does so maybe I am officially a hat lover?

What are you knitting and reading?

  2. Do let us know if the book is good, I think most people have a soft spot for Rowling after Harry Potter. Love the colour of your wurm hat!

  3. Echoing those above, can't wait to hear about the casual vacancy, especially interested in how it translates to American ears as from the reviews it sounds firmly rooted in British issues and obsessions! I hope you enjoy it though!

  4. I hope my library will get this book soon and I hope it's a good one.
I love wurm, it's such a great pattern and mine is my favourite hat. I think I might have to knit myself a new one this winter.

  5. I love all the yarns you choose. I should knit myself a wurm. As much as I dislike wearing hats it's hard to insist Ree wear one when she says "but you're not". I should go put JK Rowlings book on hold at the library. I'm sure there already are hundreds ahead of me! I have the Buddha Standard Time book on hold at the library waiting for me. My yarn along post today is about my new cowl! :-)

  7. Gorgeous hat colour!
I have bought that book as I'm curious to see how she writes for adults, too.

  8. Very pretty yarn. Yes - it's getting to be hat weather. I'm not a hat lover myself so I find I don't knit too many of them. I think I have maybe one or two that I knit for me? Maybe I will use some of my handspun for the next one.

  9. we were talking about that book at the library---it's gotten such awful reviews I've decided to wait a bit and see what some of my friends think before I take the plunge! I'm going to look into the wurm, too; I just finished rikke and it seems to have that same---keep your head warm without crushing your hair fit! have a happy day!!

  15. I heard a piece on the Rowling book on NPR last week or the week before. I'm not a fan (I've never read any of the Harry Potter books) but I was curious about how an adult Rowling would be. The NPR review was mixed; I'm interested to hear your impression as well. (Thanks also for the word on Buddha Standard Time; I think I am going to give it a look.) xo

  16. OOoh- I have been wanting to get my hands on that book! Can't wait to hear what you think.
And, I tried to make a wurm but it baffled me... I couldn't get it to match up evenly when I folded the edge over. I finally gave up but it is such a cute hate that I would like to try again...... it made me feel like such a failure though!! ;)

  17. Oh, I'm excited about the new JK Rowling book. I'm not sure about it though since I absolutely loved all the Harry Potter books. I'm wondering how easy it would be to write a book for adults after years of writing HP. Will be waiting to hear what you think.

  21. Love that color! It will be so pretty on you. Let me know about the book. Can't decide if I want to purchase it or get it from the library. Can you handle the pressure of a book recommendation that might lead to a spot on the book shelf ;)

  22. Such a pretty colour! Matches great with your book!
I've been thinking about knitting another wurm. I loved the one I knit as a gift!

ps: send it over. humidity has been doing a number on mine.

  24. I've never read all of Rowling's Harry Potter books ... which I guess is pretty unusual for my age group. Someday I will though. :)

  25. I am a hat lover, too. I just wish I had more to choose from :) I love the red yarn! One of these days I'll join the yarn along again....just as soon as I finish my first tea leaves. I got stuck on the sleeves and the dpn's so I've been procrastinating. I think it's all worked out now, so hopefully it'll be done soon!

  26. Oh, tell us how the book is! It's next on my list but I have to wait forever at the library. Can't wait to see all the Wurm's you knit up.
