Thoughtful Spot

Frodo had a rough week and he's been in his thoughtful spot (Winnie the Pooh).  I love when I walk by the ottoman and see a pair of feet or a tiny black nose peeking out.  Sometimes it's rough being a dog.  Luckily for him he doesn't need to have any shots for another year.

The days have been dark and cloudy.  I could go for some sunshine and soon that wish will become a reality.  Frodo and I took a walk around the yard and while I was outside just daydreaming, I knew I was in my thoughtful spot.  I love going to new places and seeing cities, historical buildings and magnificent shopping meccas that are not in my area.

I will be honest, I pine for home while out of town.  I dream of my walks, my house, my kitchen, my mug, and my routine.  Going away forces me to appreciate all over again my simple days.  When home, I'm productive and purposeful.

The leaves on the maples are nearly done falling and the oaks are half way through their autumn showiness.  Big gusts of wind have scattered leaves everywhere and mingled them all together in a melting pot of harmony.

How has your autumn days been?  Are you a homebody or an adventurous spirit?

  1. you pretty much summed it up.....i suffer with wanderlust----then can't wait to be home. routines. sameness. I embrace them all. our fall is just gearing up....and i'm lucky to be heading to our lakes area today with a friend and then going on to a church retreat for the night. the colors up there should be spectacular! can't wait!

  2. I think I'm a little bit of both. I am totally content staying home, bustling around the kitchen, the garden, knitting and just enjoying the homeliness of it all. BUT I also love to see new places and sights, and experience new to me things. So far, I think it's balancing out pretty well. :-) Have a great weekend!

  3. I have to admit I am a homebody.....always happiest in my snug home with my knitting and a hot cup of tea, coffee, or the very best, hot cocoa!!! I do like to see other places but, always happy to head for home :) I guess I am a simple country girl. Our leaves are almost down now and just a few trees still have their Autumn beauty left. We are having very dreary weather here in upstate NY and that leaves lots of time for knitting!

  4. Full fledged homebody here, I love home. But I do like to visit new places, but like you, can't wait to get back home, to the simplicity and slowness of our days.

We are enjoying some sunny warm autumn days, after a very long spell of rain and grey days. It is wonderful. I do hope the sun finds you soon.

    Enjoy your weekend Karen.

  5. I love your posts. Thoughtful spots are so needed these days!
I love to be home. I am beginning to love to travel as well. Perhaps because we do not have a dog right now; I hated leaving a dog at home when we left .
I like SHORT trips away. Very short. 4 days is perfect

  6. I enjoy discovering new places and seeing what I have never seen before, whether big city or natures beauty, but I enjoy being at home and in my routine, too.
Smith and I like seeing Frodo on your blog, even if it is only his little legs. We miss that schnauzer-ness in our home.

  7. I guess both but I do love being home mostly... home is restful :) ... that picture of Frodo is so cute and dear. :)

  8. Love to travel!
Love to come home. I love where I live and I miss my animals too much after a while away.
Frodo's little legs are too cute. Wishing you plenty of sunshine Karen.

  9. What a lovely post! I'm a homebody and an adventurer. For me the trick is to find the balance between the two. I loved what you said about how when you are away you dream of your walks, your house, your kitchen, your mug, and your routine. Those are the exact things I dream of when I'm away as well.

Love the picture of Frodo under the ottoman!

  10. I love Frodo. He's such a cutie. I like to be home and I love to travel. I think after about a week I'm ready to go back home. Being away MAKES me do nothing so it's a necessity these days!

  11. Bah! I left a comment and then it disappeared! Sweet Frodo... everyone needs a good thinking spot. :-) I love to travel, it's the hustle-bustle that does me in. I'm not a good tourist-y type, I need slower relaxing days.

  13. definitely a homebody! Loving this fall weather we are having in Missouri. 72* through the day and about 50* at night. Wonderful! :)

  14. Frodo is too cute! It has been really rainy here in NY thankfully it has stopped, because now the sun is shining! :)

  15. I like both. When I am home I dream of going to new places, when I am away I long for the comfort of home. And sometimes the best part is being home again but with a head freshly filled of memories.

  16. Poor Frodo. Rufus feels your pain. He had a rough couple of days about a month ago after a trip to the emergency vet (he ate some grapes). His favorite hiding place is under the bed.

  17. I love to visit and I love to come home. Frodo's photo is so sweet. Everybody needs a little thoughtful spot. Enjoy your weekend.

  18. When we leave on a vacation, I am always thinking to myself, "It is good to travel but even better to come home!" The older I'm getting, the more "homebody" I am becoming. We always take our two schnauzers with us when we travel or I think neither my husband or I would want to go anywhere. Yes, it means making accommodation but better than missing them every minute. Your scenery and leaf-stage is just like here in Minnesota. Each sunny warmish day is a gift! Have a good weekend!

  20. I detest traveling, I am a total homebody, just going to town is a chore for me.
I do hope Frodo has a better week. Twinkie always hides under Mike's chair in the
den and leaves the tip of his tail sticking out.
    Have a great weekend.

  21. That is an adorable picture of your dog!

  22. I love to go away but I also love being home. During the school year I long for weekends with no obligations (rare) so I can putter and knit and sew and be in my comfy space.

  23. Have a great weekend, Karen! Wishing it weren't so rainy here.

  24. I like your perspective of how being away makes you appreciate home.

Hope Frodo's week is going better now!

  25. I am both as well. I enjoy seeking beautiful places outside my doorstep, but once I am out there I crave the comforts of my home.
Seeing Froto's little legs peeking out would brighten anyone's day. Have a lovely weekend!

  26. I am both. I love to travel and explore new cultures. But since I travel for work, when I'm home, I love being at home surrounds by my family and friends.
I had to chuckle at the Frodo's feet sticking out. My cats do that, they hide, but not really.

  27. Frodo is so cute!
I love to adventure, but I also love the feeling of returning home and having my rhythm again.

  28. I love to go... and I love to come home... VERY much like you describe. When you said "productive and purposeful" I absolutely relate... seems I have a burst of energy on returning home. =)

There have been days lately I'd love to have shared Frodo's thoughtful spot with him! LOL! blessings ~ tanna

  29. I'm very much a homebody but also a little contrary. I don't like going anywhere but invariably enjoy it when I go, and once I'm enjoying myself, am not in a rush to get home. When I do get home, am very glad to be there and don't want to go away again. I suppose you could argue that this is the best of both worlds! :)

  30. Bless his paws!

I'm an adventurer who likes to stay home and a homebody who likes to go adventuring ;)
