Walks, Blue Skies and a Heron
Can you see him? This heron has been visiting for a few years now. I do love when he is visiting. Three mornings in a row in the early morning hours a family of wild turkeys have walked through our backyard. No photos yet, but believe me, I've been ready to snap now. I counted NINE, I love living where I live.
This week has been glorious in terms of low humidity and blue skies. I'm bottling up my love of the weather because the heat and humidity are returning tomorrow. So I'll be a little grumpy during those days. I know deep down inside that summer is nearly over and signs of fall are inching there way into my world.
On our walks, red and yellow leaves have dropped and my mighty oak has been sprinkling acorns everywhere. All too soon those crazy squirrels will be dashing back and forth across the road to get those nuts risking their lives in the process.
This week has been nice and quiet, just the way I like it. Have a lovely weekend!
Wow, nine turkeys is great Karen. For so long we didn't have any turkey's, but they have ever so slowing been populating and it makes my heart happy.
ReplyDeleteI have been noticing a slight change in the weather and can't wait for winter, but you knew that ;)
Have a great weekend my dear and happy knitting.
I don't want to wish my life away, but I wish fall would come sooner! Hopefully we just have one more stretch of heat and humidity before that lovely coolness in the air is here to stay.
ReplyDeletewe have wild turkeys, too! not in our yard, but not far away....still no sign of fall. I'm anxious.
ReplyDeleteOn my walk yesterday evening, six fire trucks full of very adorable fire fighters passed me on the way up to the night shift. They all smile and waved. Swoon.
ReplyDeletei cant wait to see the pics of the turkeys!!! :)
ReplyDeletei had visions of the the movie "over the hedge" when you told of the crazy squirrels - I don't know how many times the boys have made me sit through that movie. (secretly i love it - don't tell them though)
happy weekend hun - hope its filled with happy sparklings xxx
Where you live is truly beautiful Karen. What a thrill to see the turkeys...that must be a sight. Hope you do manage to photo them. We definitely can feel autumn in the air here too. It's funny how you walk into the garden one day and just feels a bit different than the day before. I hope things don't get too hot and humid.
ReplyDeleteHave an awesome weekend.

Wow, wild turkeys? Are they protected? You have interesting and good-looking birds in your area. We have these ugly geese that poop everywhere. And mahalo nui loa for friending me back everywhere. I appreciate your friendship!
ReplyDeleteLove your blue sky photo. I haven't seen a heron in years. I wish we could get some hot weather. It just seems to rain, rain, rain. Have a great weekend. Joan at www.aviewtothefells.com
ReplyDeleteMy parents have turkeys stop by sometimes, but the numbers significantly dwindled after they got a dog (who likes to sit outside). You can still hear them in the woods around the house.
ReplyDeleteI see the heron, and as you know I love them. So many crossed my path last summer, and this summer only two. And turkeys, we have them too, and I love watching them. So fun!
ReplyDeleteThe humidity has already arrived here, and it is sticky, and will be all weekend long. Hope you stay cool Karen, and enjoy your weekend.
We've had a stray heron visit our yard from time to time, I do believe he's eyeing our small (goldfish) pond. We've also been lucky once or twice and found several wild turkey in our subdivision while out walking in the early morning. Maybe they'll be back this year... Right now we can only dream of lower humidity. It is in the low 90's and just plain sticky. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHope you manage to snap some pictures of the turkeys. I don't feel as if we have had a real summer this year, the weather has been mediocre to say the least. I am not ready for Autumn yet, we have not ordered the wood and finished preserving yet.
ReplyDeleteYour world is so green and peaceful! We (almost) always have low humidity, but our heat is returning for a few days. It's the light in the mornings, and the sun lighting the sky until late in the evening, that I am missing already. Watching birds is one of my favorite things about warmer weather.
ReplyDeleteSteady quiet weeks are great, I agree! i love herons. They are so prehistoric to me. They glide over the tops of the rivers here and ponds. SO effortless. Lovely post
ReplyDeleteI love herons, they're so graceful! I love getting sneak peeks of where you live. Yesterday Popeye and I came across both a doe and a bobcat while we were out walking in the wood. I wish I had had my camera! Have a lovely weekend and stay cool! xx
ReplyDeleteI love herons, too; they make me think of pterodactyls. How fun to see all those turkeys. Someone in our n'borhood spotted 3 baby bobcats playing up in a tree near their kitchen window! Wonder where their mama was? Have a great weekend. It's finally raining some here. Hurrah!
ReplyDeleteI love the old world feel of the last photograph even though it is probably due to movement, but it has a lovely aura about it. I too am a bird watcher and enjoy the visits of different birds at different times of the year
ReplyDeleteWe've had some beautiful days here too. I think we only have a few more weeks of hot hot weather. That makes me happy to know fall is right around the corner. Hope you have a blessed weekend.
ReplyDeleteI see him... what lovely feathered visitors you have!!! Your spot in this world is beautiful and I'm so glad you are enjoying all of it to its fullest...Have a wonderful weekend Karen
ReplyDeleteMr Squirrel has already been digging in our garden with the acorns even though they aren't even ripe yet! Crazy little fellows aren't they! xx
ReplyDeleteI have a heron that visits us every year as well! Love them.
ReplyDeleteGreat pic of your visitor. :)
You are surrounded by such loveliness, Karen! Glad it has been a good week, happy weekend to you too xx
ReplyDeleteI love herons, just lovely creatures! I miss seeing turkeys, good for you in seeing them :)
