Nature Sightings

Good morning!  or maybe good afternoon?  How are you?  Around here, life is going well.  This past week I've walked daily even yesterday after a whole day of rain!  Unfortunately we didn't get far, and what was a drizzle changed back to pouring rain.  The walk was shortened but my what a power walk to get back to dry clothes.  Poor Frodo was soaked through, my husband carried him under his coat during the worse part of the downpour.

Have you been enjoying the daylight that greets us in the early morning?  Oh I do love that about the time change.  This morning during my journal entry for the day, I heard the bluebirds in their nest up about the rain spout outside my window.  So excited that they are there!

Earlier this week, I glanced out the back window upstairs and saw a red fox slinking through the woods.  Also, the wild turkeys and deer were standing in the middle of the road when I returned from running errands the other day. No photos, believe me I tried!!  I am grateful for the nature sightings and wilderness treats.  As long as I don't see a bear...which are around here as well.

This weekend we are tackling the little bathroom upstairs that needs some sprucing up.  Painting, new towels and shower curtain should do the trick.  We are nearing to one year when my husband painted the main level in a week for the upcoming wedding!  That mammoth job was mid May.  The little bathroom should be a snap!

In the photo above can you see the nest??  Also a bird always builds a nest in this bush and every year we are unable (or unwilling) to trim the bush because of the bird's nest.  I think it's a sparrow but I'm not sure since I haven't seen her.

Have a lovely weekend!

  1. Good luck tackling your bathroom project! Hope all goes well and gets done quickly. We're supposed to take part in a bike ride tomorrow, but this morning hubby woke up with a headache. I hope he's not getting what I had a all week... Sunday is the Bridgestreet 1/2 marathon that hubby, Hannah and I are signed up for. Again, I hope he's not getting what I had... Wish us luck!

  2. I love all your nature sightings! You were brave to attempt a walk. The skies here have been cold and threatening all week and we're supposed to get 3-5" of snow tomorrow -- the perfect weekend to stay inside and knit.

  10. I love that you love nature, Karen. You have some great nature sights to see your neck of the woods. Last year I was at the bus stop one morning and a fox crossed the road and ran up the street, I was beside myself with excitement!! We've had a sparrow hawk in the garden too, he was beautiful. I really enjoyed reading your post. Have a great weekend xx

  11. We have had a small fox family living across the street from us for the past couple of years. One afternoon I looked out the window and was able to watch the two kits playing with one another! It was such a treat! Have a great weekend!

  13. Thanks for your nature sightings. I am envious of your bluebird sightings. I have to go out in the country to see them. Just stay clear of the bears. Have a good weekend.

  14. I love seeing wildlife along my walks. Mostly it is squirrels, ducks, deer etc....
Once in awhile I'll see an alligator and I've heard there is a bear in the neighborhood, but I haven't seen him yet.

  17. You've had some great wildlife sightings this week! I don't mind encountering a bear as long as I'm a safe distance away. It's the cougars I hope to avoid around here. We have a fair number of them.
