Weekends

clean coffee table - this is huge!

My pesky back had me up at 4:40 a.m., so I'm dragging my feet today.  The back is feeling better each day but boy is it slow going and I'm impatient.  How are you?  How was your weekend?

I started a new book,  Alias Grace - good golly is it a fantastic read.  I was drawn in from page one.  If you'll recall, I read The Handmaid's Tale instead of watching the Hulu TV show and loved the book.  It was edgy but in a manageable good way for me.  I will be reading more of Margaret Atwood's writings in my future.

gobble gobble, my sister sewed this turkey!
Today was knitting and reading but not together.  I still had dinner to make and my friends came over to knit and chat.  Truth be told, it's more talking than knitting, but we like that.  The conversations swirl and weave in and out, jumping from tangent to tangent.

The weekend:

-ordered pizza - hometown parade - candy -  rice Krispie Treats - morning rain storms - humidity (boo) - quiet mornings getting darker and darker -  wishing for cooler days

My world looks like fall, but it feels like summer, again.  It is hot and humid out there.  I've given up checking the weather, I'm now ignoring all of it.  I went clothes shopping with my daughter on Friday and bought some new fall clothes and I'm toe tapping impatiently to wear them.

dogwood leaves

Thank you all for visiting this space, I appreciate your diligence in reading and the comments that you leave.  How was your weekend?

P.S. My company leaves tomorrow.

isn't he the cutest dog ever?

  1. I'm sorry your back is giving you trouble. Do you use a heating pad? Would that help? Or one of those hot/cold patches? I have yet to notice the leaves turning color in my town here. We start out with nippy mornings in the 50's but the sun is determined to be the winner and keeps it warm by 1 p.m. to the evening. Your seasonal decorations always make me smile. I'm chillaxin' today. Glad to have gotten that shawl blocked. I still have to block my niece's cardigan but I used up most of my pins.

  2. Hoping PT and stretching helps your back. and that your "guests" are able to move out/in without adverse impacts from Nate (gah, he's dumping lots of rain on us!) I am a huge fan of Margaret Atwood, but I didn't enjoy The Heart Goes Last at all... and I think our little schnauzers are tied for cutest dog ever awards :-) Have a great week, Karen!

  3. Oh I hope your back improves!

I love the turkey in the photo - he looks like a good little guy! I haven't read Alias Grace, but it is on my (way too long) TBR list. I liked Handmaid's Tale, though at the time I read it I must admit it didn't seem as possible as it does now - yikes!

Sounds like you had a good weekend. Like you, I'm wishing fall would return and soon.

The yarn you are using for your knitting project is a lovely color! It looks like a red wine color - what will it be?

  4. I remember going shopping for school clothes right before Labor Day and then not being able to wear them the first day of school because it was far too hot for fall clothes. SO disappointing.

Hope you back is feeling better soon.

  5. I'm also sending lots of good thoughts that your back improves. It affects so much of how we feel and what we are able to do. I'm also wishing for real fall weather to return; this weekend has been almost unbearably muggy, so I'm a bit cranky. Hope your company has an easy, uncomplicated move and loves their new home!

  6. These backs can be a problem or a pain. I find if I don't take time for stretching, walking, and yoga my back lets me know. I enjoyed Alias Grace a while back. Sometimes I think I should just reread the books I enjoyed once upon a time. I just finished a nonfiction book, Eleanor and Hick. The sort-of biography was an interesting combination of the personal and public lives of Eleanor Roosevelt. It is lovely to have company and then nice to put the house back in order and get back to our routines.

  7. I am fighting a neck issue, but I know it's due to my crafts and trying to sleep upright to avoid stuffy nose! Love that sweet face!!

  8. Very sweet dog! I enjoyed The Handmaid's Tale several years ago, but haven't read anything else of Atwood's since. I'll have to look this one up, because I do like her writing. And it's always nice to have a clear coffee table - more room for new knitting and reading projects :)

  11. Sending you healing thoughts in the hope it will help. It was communion weekend in our new church so most of the weekend was spent either at services or in fellowship, most enjoyable and uplifting.

  13. Back troubles and back pain....are no fun. So sorry. I bought a winter jacket last week, at the resale shop. Then it warmed up again, no complaints here!

  14. Karen, I hope your back feels better soon. Sending you healing prayers, my friend! I am struggling with the heat and humidity also, I can barely breathe out there. Your Frodo is such a handsome boy!

  15. Frodo....I want to go to your beauty shop. Have you SEEN the last haircut I got? It's pretty awful. I can't help it if I was covered with mats and was a mess. I like seeing your pictures. Don't let your mom see my picture....I CAN"T BELIEVE MY MOM POSTED ONE OF MY BAD HAIRCUT!!! Your friend, Freddy. PS. I hope your mom's back is better soon so you all can go on walks.

  16. So sorry to hear your back has been bothering you. Back pain is just awful and can affect how all your other 'parts' feel and move. Yuck. Hope you are soon back to your normal self. Love your fall foliage photos. We're having the same issues here - looks like fall, feels like early August. I'm sure it won't be long before I'm complaining about having to pay the heat bill however. :)

  17. How much do I love seeing Frodo. Alias Grace was my favorite Margaret Atwood book and I like everything she writes. Last year she came to SLC for a lecture series. She is so interesting and has a wicked sense of humor. Back problems are so debilitating. I had a bad night last night, too. I think travel has taken its toll. It's back to exercises for me, too! Be well!
