Weekends

The last weekend of this year, can you believe it?  This year went fast for me, but to be honest every year goes fast for me the older that I get.  Aging does that.  We are in the deep freeze with low temperatures.  I'm wearing all the woolens.  All of them!  While I agree that 5 degrees is a tad too chilly, I'm enjoying this weather.  All you summer lovers will have your day soon enough.

I decluttered the house and put away all the holiday decorations.  I usually wait until January first but this year I wanted them put away.  I started on the 29th and finished yesterday.  The house looks bigger, brighter and tidier.  I find it funny that when I decorate for the holidays the house looks cozy and warm.  The day after we open presents, my house looks crowded and messy.

Yesterday and today I had some pockets of knitting time that made me so happy.  Finally!  I had some free mental therapy as I worked on all the knitting.  To be honest, I felt quite relaxed this afternoon and haven't felt like that since before finding Holly.

Holly loves her room and doesn't hide as much in it.  Sometimes she is sitting on the couch. We go in at different times of the day and sit with her.  She comes out and plays and exercises.  We keep trying to bring her out to the living room with all of us to sit and be.  Sometimes she is okay with it and sometimes she wants nothing to do with it.

mitten!

Frodo just wants to be friends with her I think.  He seems to be barking less (Holly would disagree).  Also, he does a sniff and is finished with her and onto catching a frisbee or chase one of his balls.  He has adjusted quite well so far.

How was your weekend?

Frodo!!

  2. I haven't put the decorations away yet because we still have some visitors coming. I am planning to cast on a hat or something soon. I need some knit therapy. Happy New Year to you and yours.

  3. Frodo looks so bright and playful, and while it may not seem fast enough, it does seem like he and Holly are both adjusting well. I love your "knitting nest" on the couch, and am glad you're regaining some knitting time!

  4. It's great to hear you're finding calm moments. Frodo! He has such a darling face. I put away all but a few lights, which will likely be gone in a week or so. Happy New Year!

  5. I feel the same way about the Christmas decorations, except, I love the lights & candles in the windows so much I can't bear to take them down early. (That and the fact that I'm lazy and Dread having to drag all the Christmas junk boxes back down out of the attic just to fill them & drag them back up again.) Your knitting looks great and all, but Please! Please talk about that project bag sitting on the floor next to the sofa. I Need that bag! It's beautiful! Happy New Year!

  6. Karen you description of how you feel about the Christmas decorations was perfect! it is just how I think. Im reading CATWISE by Pam johnson Bennet. There are so few books that are good out there on cat life and she's great. One of her kitten suggestions is to use lots of wand toys to wear them out while they are out of their safe room. Then they relax and hunt with you and go back to their safe room for a nap

  7. Happy New Year Karen! That's great you got all the Christmas stuff put away and it feels tidier in your home now. I am currently working on achieving this myself. I will probably tackle it tomorrow. That is good things are going well with Holly and Frodo and that you got some knitting time in. I love your mitten so far!

  9. Frodo's expression is cute: "Why won't she play with me?!" I'm glad Holly is adjusting further to comfortable. My kids are taking care of the neighbor's dog and their friend's dog. They took out the Chihuahua earlier for a walk around the court. I just hollered for them to take her out again now because it's getting dark.

  10. Frodo is such a cute little fellow. I managed to put everything away and have a clean house by December 30. It feels good to clear up some space. I love that twig basket on your table. Happy knitting and happy winter.

  11. Happy New Year!!! My decorations were down December 26th (we left for a couple days on the 27th...but they would have been down even if we hadn't headed out of town!).....so I TOTALLY understand the lighter, brighter side of things (vs the cozy....we think the same way!!!). I had to bring in a few new houseplants, too to get the botanical look going-----I think it counteracts the fact that we have 2 degrees temps tonight. Honestly, if it's going to be THAT cold, I'd like a couple snow flurries to go with it. So far---NADA. Like you....I love the cold, even though my aging body/joints aren't as enthused with it. Have a great start to the new year!!!

  12. Happy New Year! I'm gearing up for putting away holiday stuff and decluttering, but to be honest, I'm still lingering in vacation mode.

  13. Our dogs took time to be best buddies. Well, the younger was ready from the get go, the older not so much. Now they are sleeping butt to butt on my recliner as I surf the blogs.
