Weekends

clean
Gah! My house is clean, as in tidy not cluttered clean.  So nice and so good.  Yesterday, our son left to return to PSU for his spring semester.  He was here a total of three weeks and in the middle of his visit we had our daughter and son in law here for a week.  So, yesterday after goodbyes, I was a mad woman putting all the 'stuff' away.  I was also a happy woman reclaiming the spaces.

We attended Mass last night and then picked up a pizza for dinner at home.  I worked on my son in law's sweater while watching some episodes of Stranger Things on Netflix, it's good!  We bring Holly out to sit with us in the family room and sometimes she is fine and other times she wants to go back into her room.

love him!
Today was a great day, I knitted a lot, finished a book and then knitted some more.  I'm addicted to the mitten progress and the 'just one more row' attitude.  They are knitting up fast!  I found my peaceful spot in my mind as I worked on the mitten. I finished reading Everything I Never Told You -quite good and I recommend it.

fun to knit
Did you notice that the days are a little longer?  I did.  January is quietly beautiful.  I was outside with Frodo just before starting this post and geese were flying overhead.  Time stopped and I listened to their music.  Dare I say, it felt a little warmer?  Still cold, but a damp cold instead of a biting cold.

Holly can climb over the baby gate when the door is opened and she likes to hide in the studio room upstairs.  She still does not like Frodo because he's too excited and barks.  I'd like to tell Holly to ignore him.  I'd like to tell Frodo to chill out and be quiet.

I get extremely stressed about this whole pet process.  My husband is not stressed at all - so I frequently check out mentally (like I am right now) and try to think of something else.

I've got my cup of tea waiting and some blogs to read.  How was your weekend??

love her!  (sorry it's blurry though)

  2. It is a lovely feeling to reclaim your home after having guests. Holly and Frodo both- be still my heart. Soon they will be best friends and your anxiety will go away.

  3. Your mitts are amazing! Love that little Holly cat; it sounds like she's becoming more comfortable with her new life. Was your son as happy with the outcome of the Fiesta Bowl as my DH was? (It was hard though as we are a UW household. LOL)

  4. I have noticed -- and treasured -- the additional sunlight!
What is that mitten pattern? It is gorgeous!
You must read Celeste Ng's latest book: Little Fires Everywhere. It is REALLY good.
And I love Stranger Things, too. Now I'm watching Transparent, which is absorbing but depressing. The characters are not very likable.

  5. She is such a sweet little cat. I have a cat and I just love her to death. I would love to have a dog but they get out of the fence and I'm getting too old to chase dogs. ha! I like your knitting bowls. That's a good way to organize projects. It is indeed getting dark about thirty minutes later....makes me start looking forward to spring. I do so love the cold days when I can snuggle with a quilt on the couch and watch the birds out the window. I am going to have to read that book, too!

  6. Just this evening as I was cooking dinner, I looked out to the west. At 6:00 there was still a line of light orangey - pink on the horizon. The days are getting longer. Don't you love a clean, tidy house? I try not to fuss but every now and then I have to zoom around and pick up.

  9. Many years ago when I was married and had family at home we rescued a Doberman named Max, we already had a gorgeous Boxer cross named Daisy and a darling little cat named Tizzie. Daisy was fine with the newbie but Tizzie wasn’t, she stayed well out of the way and had to be fed on top of the kitchen cabinets. It was like a military operation, all the time calling out “Where’s Max/Tizzie before we could open a door. Inevitably one day someone forgot, opened a door, Max rushed in and cornered Tizzie. She raised herself up on her hind legs, fur standing upright, hissed and growled and sank her claws into his jowls. He froze on the spot. After a bit of tussling Tizzie let go and they became the best of friends, even to the extent where Max let her share his bed. Actually it was more a case of she was the boss and he went along with it. I do hope Holly and Frodo soon become best friends. My weekend was fairly quiet with a bit of sewing. Yes I have noticed the days are a little longer. I’ve watched season 2 of Stranger Things, it’s very good

  10. It is wonderful to have house guests but then it is just as nice to reclaim your space and go back to your routine.
It has gotten a little nicer outside.. we spent over an hour playing outside in the snow.
Stranger Things is a great show.. I've gotten my husband hooked too.

  11. That sounds like a pretty perfect weekend. I'm guessing that Holly and Frodo will be friends at some point, and it will be no big deal when they see each other. Please give them both a kiss from me.

  12. Holly has just the sweetest little expression. I can see why you fell in love with her.

I bought Everything I Never Told You this past Friday. It will be next after Eleanor Oliphant. I'm looking forward to reading it.

  13. We are already getting a few extra moments each day of light, so I am thrilled. Sadly it is not getting warmer but I can't complain when I am reading blogs with extreme weather conditions. Beautiful knitting, such a stunning pattern on the mitten. Thrilled to see Holly settling better each day.

  14. Holly is such a beautiful kitten!!! The amount of progress that has been made between kitten and dog is remarkable and I am betting they will become friends in time. Enjoy your photos and updates.

  15. Just looking at Frodo's cute face causes me to laugh out loud. He looks like such a character! I have been purging today, my freezer, my basement, just trying to get organized. We still have Christmas decorations up but they will start coming down this week (the tree is already down). I always feel a little sad putting them away. I'm diligently working on my lace shawl, I missed a stitch in the pattern yesterday but cannot bear to take it all out AGAIN so I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it won't show. I have the right number of stitches, but I must have done one K2 together too many. We'll see how it goes, LOL!

  16. I know what you mean about reclaiming your space. Our son left last week and I did the same. Love those mittens! I too noticed that the days are growing! :) LOVE IT!

  17. Oh, I am so envious of your cleared and clean space! We are WAY past my usual time for REMOVING all the Christmas "stuff". I finally have the house to myself... and here I am catching up on my blog reading instead of clearing the mess. LOL! Truthfully, by the time the house empties, I just need to sit in the quiet awhile. But, by the next time you hear from me, there will be a clean house here, too. ;) You're the second person who has recommended Stranger Things. I'm going to have to try that one. Did you watch The Crown?? We really enjoyed both seasons. Have a great week, Karen. blessings ~ tanna

  19. first of all Im so proud of you for your kitten transitioning. You are so good at this. Is she growing? Eating well?
I love your sponge holder in the sink. Where do you get one?

  20. Just check out that spiffy house! I am JEALOUS!

And I love your Christmas cactus.

  21. Ah yes...lovely to have "guests" and lovely to have reclaimed space. I really, really want to de-clutter this year. I'm on it...just need some time.

Love your mittens - what pattern?

Holly and Frodo - I predict a friendship or at least tolerance. It will come.

I have definitely noticed the days getting slowly longer. More light at the end of the day. And, I heard on the radio, that tomorrow will be the latest sunrise. On Wednesday the sun will start to rise just a tad earlier.

  22. My daughter is back at college and I am slowly getting her room back together. If it wasn’t for having to look at an untidy room for the next six or so weeks I would just leave it. I much prefer walking by an organized space.

  23. Sounds like you have gotten lots of things done lately and it is so nice that you are all tidy and organized. My apartment still feels a bit cluttered from Christmas (more so than usual anyways). Your mitten is so nice! I love the pattern and that's good it is also fun to knit. Hoping Frodo and Holly are getting along better and cute photos of them both.

  24. Love your mitten and that you can claim your space again and find a quiet spot in your mind. Your world looks beautiful and cozy right now and having a kitten and a dog makes it all the more balanced, even if you feel a little off kilter.

  25. I love when things are tidy. We have too much clutter to ever be truly tidy, but I love tidy for us. We are there today. I got rid of 2 big boxes of extra things we do not need this week. It felt so good. I am going to put 2 more boxes out tomorrow to begin again. :)

  26. it is alway good to have "clean" again... it only last for an instance of a second and then i have to start all over again. holly is just the sweetest thing ever. xxx

  27. I love reclaiming the spaces! Glad that you had both of your "kids" home over the holidays. That always brightens up the season...at least for me. :) Love the mitten pattern! You go, Girl!

  28. I know it's hard to wait for changes in Holly and Frodo's relationship but I really think she's making progress, granted it's not extremely noticeable nor a big jump from when she first came, but she's doing well. The daily routine you have for her and maturity of her little brain will help her know she is safe in your house and loved.
Thank you again for your sweet support. I swear I sometimes feel I change blog names like how I do my hair.
