Taking it Easy

How is your Friday morning?  I'm sitting at the kitchen table, listening to a bird welcome the start of the day.  Mornings are when I am at my best self.  I write out a list, I reflect and write in my journals and most of my blog writing occurs in the mornings.  My gram was a morning person as well as my dad.  Can being a morning person be genetic?  I'd like to believe so.  Each day is unblemished and ready for anything I am opened to do.

On Monday, I babysat the toddler girl who had a runny nose.  So you know where this is going....I had a sore throat yesterday and today I'm blessed with a runny nose.  I washed my hands a bazillion times and it didn't work one single bit.  I'm thankful it's not the dreaded flu that the news paints as pure evil.  There is that blessing.

Yesterday, I drank tons of hot tea to soothe my sore throat and worked on the second sock for my daughter.  My goal is to finish the second sock by Sunday night.  I'm confident I'll meet my expectations.  If not, well then Monday is just as good.

The Holly/Frodo dynamics continue to entertain us empty nesters.  He barks at her and she hisses.  He ignores her and she's on the hunt to tap him on the back.  Advance, retreat.  Hiss -  Bark - Whine - They are both confused on how they feel.

If I could hazard a guess, Holly is desperate to be 'friends' but he is bigger and well noisy!  Frodo is just befuddled most of the time.  Sorry Frodo, I'm confused as well on what you should do.

look at that innocence -- not.
I have great expectations of kicking this cold by Sunday night.  Today, I'm taking it easy and staying home.  I'll knit and drink tea and read a book.  I will not be doing any housework nor will I be cooking dinner.  I'm hoping my husband picks something up on the way home from work.  I've been craving and ingesting chicken noodle soup and hot tea.  Buckets of both!!

I've been raiding the empty bedrooms for 'name brand' tissues.  I bought generic tissues for the kitchen and -ack! - it's awful.  I've learned my lesson, nothing but the best for a tender nose.

she loves to watch him eat
What is your go-to soothing food or drink for a cold?  I'd love to know!

  1. Feel better! Tea with honey and lemon works. Wine also works for me - lol. And plenty of soup - any kind. Lots of rest and yes - name brand tissues! Sounds like your plan for today is perfect.

PS I'm a morning person too - my favorite time of day.

  6. I know what you mean about the morning. I like to watch the sun coming up. You are right about the flu and lots of hand washing does help. Each morning, I take 2 tsp of apple cider vinegar and 1 tsp honey in hot water whether I am sick or not. I like to think it helps ward off some of the germs. I hope you feel better soon.

  7. Sending good, healing thoughts your way so you can fight off the dreaded cold. My mother and grandmother were morning people and I am, too.

  8. I heard a morning bird song this morning also, can spring be coming here in TN? It is possible as usually it does, but today's temp was 22 and that is cold.
I am a morning person also and like it for reading, the news rather than a book unless it needs to go back to the library.
I recommend for a head cold what everybody else does, tea w/honey, chicken soup, and a restful day.
Your dog and cat are wonderfully hilarious, I'd love to have them around to watch.

  9. You know I KNOW those two will be best buddies by the 4th of JULY!! !Cats take time!! Isnt it funny? Dogs would have worked it out in a few snifs, growls, roll overs and the like. Cats need time. Holly is sooo pretty.
Best for a cold: chicken noodle soup Mrs Grasses . the kind with the fake egg that is really stock. Or: ANY soup you love. Push those fluidS! PRETZELS WITH SALt sooth the throat.

  10. Hope you get over that cold this weekend as you hope you will! I used to work with children, mostly in the toddler room at childcare centers and was sick all the time. They just pick up colds and spread them so easily. The pictures of Frodo and Holly are so cute as they try to make sense of each other! Hope that is going well. Hope you can get lots of nice knitting time in today and this weekend while you are getting over that cold.

  11. I can't believe how BIG Holly is! I do hope you feel better soon - my only recommendation is Sleep, Juice and Night-time cold meds. (and no knitting ... but yes to books! ... and lots and lots of sleep!)

  12. I love hearing about Holly and Frodo's antics... I can't believe how much Holly has grown in such a short time. I do hope you are feeling better soon, the coughs and snivels have been doing the rounds here too. At least we can stay inside and hibernate for a while xx

  13. My sore throat remedy is horrible but it works. As a preteen, I got sick while on an out of town trip with a friend. Her dad fed me milk with a shot of scotch in it. And it worked! I think it works because it's so disgusting that your body automatically heals itself so that you won't feed it that awful concoction again. But it works and since I've been old enough to buy scotch, that's what I use. (And a bottle of Mucinex helps too.) Hope you're feeling better soon!

  14. So sorry you caught that cold! I used to love a herbal tea called Cold Care PM, but it's been discontinued. So now I use Gypsy Cold Care, which is OK but not quite as good!
Your Holly is just so cute!

  16. Hot tea soothes me. And, I love the quote on your tea bag! I sure hope you are feeling better soon! The Little People do spread their germs. Ha! We call our youngest Typhoid Roo. ;) He's always been so generous in his sharing.

Holly and Frodo are just too cute. Lots of amusement to enjoy from those two! Get better! blessings ~ tanna

  18. Sure hope you're feeling better soon, Karen, and yes, so glad it's not the flu. I know 3 people who've had it, 2 ended up in the hospital for 3 days. It is a really bad flu this year. :-(
Get lots of rest, and take good care of you.

  19. I'm sorry you're under the weather. I've drank hot water with lemon, honey, 2 tbsp of vinegar, and a dash of cinnamon. Hot baths with epsom salts are said to detox one's body when one is sick. I've been doing foot soaks. Holly is so funny! I like how she has that paw out to try to whap Frodo one. What brand of tea do you drink that has those quotes?

  20. Hope you are feeling better today. We had type A flu as you might have read... my cough has been hanging on ever since! I don't usually care to eat and getting me to drink enough is another issue in itself. I always by Puffs. Nothing but the best, you are right!

  21. I hope by now you are feeling better. My cold remedies include naps, hot tea and honey, and plenty of water. And yes, soft tissues are a must.
