A Quiet House

This was the first week of my 'summer' vacation and I spent the week getting caught up on car maintenance and inspections.  While sitting and waiting for each car, I read my books and got lost in a story just like I did when I was a teenager.

I finished reading 'Chilbury Ladies Choir' and it was entertaining.  I didn't care for the diary/letter format of telling the story in first person by many characters.  When I was talking to my son about it, I expressed how I was disappointed in the 'tidy' endings of everyone.  All happily ever after - which is nice but for me it's not the reality of life.

Today I've only the gym and a quick run into the grocery store (fingers crossed it is as quick as I believe it will be).  Once I am home, I'll be knitting and reading and officially starting summer vacation!

We plan to have a staycation weekend.  I'm already thinking up some meals to eat to enjoy outside at the patio set.  As the temperatures climb higher and higher, we will be swimming in the pool as well.

Dare I say that our house has been quiet more often than not?  Have these two pets decided to give us poor pet owners a break?

Holly has been getting into my yarn baskets.  A few days ago, I was on the phone chatting to my sister and Holly walked right by with a big ole skein of yarn in her mouth.  Talk about stealthiness.

Instead of putting away the wools, I cover the baskets with a towel.  Mischief managed and I believe I've outsmarted a cat once again.  You and I both know that is not the case.

Our local library had a book sale and I found some treasures.  I was excited to find some art books!  Just the subject I'm interested learning more about.  During the sale, I shop for myself but I am looking out for books for my kids and husband as well.

  2. happy summer vacation!!!! we've sort of leapt right into the summer doldrums....heat has soared over 90 the past week, with no end in sight. I find myself at the back end of a hose more than I'd like. I just can't bring myself to let go of the garden quite this early!!! Enjoy your 'staycation'....looking forward to one here soon.....but not this weekend. Boo!

  9. Beautiful photos this post! Hope you have a great stay-cation.

Giroux used to help himself to yarn too. He hasn't done it in awhile, but I wouldn't put it past him to do it again. LOL

  10. Love the photos. I felt the same way about that book. It was nice, but the ending was just too tidy for me especially during war time.

  15. That is something I have to take the girls to, a library book sale. Ours has those once a month I think. I like seeing Frodo exploring about. A cat can't resist yarn for sure. Do you watch Cherrypurls podcast? They have a kitten named Hagrid and he was in the last podcast and made me LOL. While Robyn was showing a swatch he was swatting away and moving about as the movement of the yarn enticed him. It was too cute.

  16. Enjoy your quiet house. I love library book sales as well as quirky used book stores. I find shopping with an open mind instead of a list is best. By the way, The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend is a charming little novel. A friend gave me a copy and I am passing it around. Everyone who reads it enjoys it.
