Feels Like Summer
Can you believe it's June? Where does the time go?
During this month, my babysitting will end for the summer months. Space will be made in the day in and day out schedules. I'll still be at the gym three times a week but those two days of not babysitting will feel a bit decadent for kicking back and feel like I'm on a summer school vacation.
Summer weather has arrived as well. Heat and humidity seeped in while I wasn't looking and my hair is frizzing out whenever I'm outside. As I was driving home yesterday, the plants and bushes on the roadside were billowing in greenness. Seems like yesterday I was wishing for foliage.
So far, we do not have any official summer vacation planned. I consider the Cape Cod trip a tiny vacation and we do have to retrieve our son when his internship ends. It's been years since we've been to our state parks. When the children were little, we'd go and have a hike, explore the stream and have a picnic. I'd like to do that again, this time taking the big camera and inhaling the forest scents and listening to silence.
I've been writing out some day trips my husband and I could do throughout the summer. (and I can sleep in my OWN bed at the end of the day)
This weekend is a do nothing weekend that will offset the travel weekend that just occurred. I'll be sitting and knitting and reading. Sometimes all at the same time and sometimes individually.
The backyard swing is up and ready for use - perfect for reading.
I started two new novels a few days ago. The Chilbury Ladies' Choir by Jennifer Ryan is interesting but I'm having trouble getting into the story. The book is written in diary/letter format with different first persons narrating. If I get an hour this afternoon and read uninterrupted I should be good.
The other book, The Beautiful Mystery by Louise Penny is my kindle read....on the treadmill at the gym. I'm hoping the interesting plot will make me forget I'm exercising. I carry the kindle everywhere these days to squeeze in reading, I love the progress I make with 10 minutes here and there.
My knitting has hit that sweet spot. I have the patterns memorized and I zip along knitting with happiness.

ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend, Karen!
ReplyDeleteWith all the rain and humidity here, we're also billowing in greenness. It's definitely a good growing season, especially for weeds and mushrooms! Your lovely pool makes the perfect place to read, kit, and take a dip; I hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteJune...I wonder if it will pass as quickly as May did? Lovely that you have some time to yourself now with summer school vacation. I like your approach to the treadmill! Love my Kindle!
ReplyDeleteMay went fast I agree! I love that you think we are twins!!! I'm such a list maker!!! cats, dogs, adult children who are moving around...yup I agree . As for vacations, they will be trips to help our kids put down new roots . we'll see. THey have us up in the air right now!
ReplyDeleteSomeone else sent me your tip .....thank you. It worked for me. I'm able to see comments in my email again.
ReplyDeleteIf you go hiking over this way, give us a yell. We love to hike too and would love to meet you.
Enjoy the weekend, Karen! Love that shawl that's in progress.
ReplyDeleteI am working on a cowl, but closing up the hem right now which is tedious! But it makes the piece so pretty, Willow Cowl is the pattern.
ReplyDeleteit does feel like summer ... mostly in a good way still :-) ...how lovely that you get a little "summer vacation" from your normal routine.
ReplyDeleteAll the green is delicious isn't it? Just this a.m. I parked my car before a yoga class and thought how beautiful to see the sunlight reflected from so many leaves on trees. The world is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe how much green there is! My gardens are doing so well this year and I am not sure what has made the difference. Perhaps it was the wet April we had? In any case, I love sitting out on our little brick patio and seeing all the flowers in bloom. Have a lovely weekend, Karen! xx
ReplyDeleteP.S. Your suggestion worked! : )
Your pool looks inviting. I like Frodo's new fur cut. Yay for going to the gym 3x a week.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe you all have heat and humidity! We are still chilly, with a threat of rain that never comes (that's the story of the west). This week we'll see the heat move in and I am happily waiting! Enjoy your weekend, Karen!
ReplyDeleteHow interesting is that when the kids are small we are liked "forced" to do outdoors things, like trips to parks, go to the beach..., we want to show everything to them. As they grow up and don't want to hang out with us we get lasy to do outdoors activities. I was going to the gym 3 times a week before all my trouble started, I miss it a lot, now I'm doing physiotherapy to be able to stand up by myself. I'm reading Lousianna Catch and I've more 2 books waiting for me on my Kindle as well. Love you photos! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI love quiet weekends! They are especially nice have a traveling one.
ReplyDeleteI have a Kindle, but I don't really like reading on it. I wish I did because it is SO convenient.
