Seeking Changes

Hello! How are you on this fine Friday morning? Can you believe that fall is around the corner (finally.). I'm excited about that. I know and you know that there will be hot days but they are just not sustainable this time of the year. I'm sitting in my kitchen watching my bird feeders and currently a chickadee is visiting. I do love having the bird feeders.

The above photo is my new coffee/tea station set up. As you know, I've been improving my lifestyle for that past month. I have been a serious morning coffee drinker for 40 years. I drink it black with sugar. I have tried to cut down the sugar and can only go so far. I do not like the taste of artificial sweeteners. Added to that I'm probably caffeine sensitive and feel edgy with 1/2 decaf coffee. With green tea I do not use any sugar and it has way less caffeine unless I drink the decaf version.

So I cleaned the coffee maker and put it away. I brought out my beloved electric tea kettle and bought some green teas to go in the apothecary jars (so so glad I did not donate those jars and packed them up!).

It's going to take me a few weeks to decide if I like tea in the morning. The Keurig is sitting right there if I choose to have coffee.

I like the fact that I am seeking the change instead of the change being forced upon me. What do you drink in the mornings? Is it caffeinated, hot or cold? I'm curious how many out there are coffee drinkers or tea drinkers or maybe you just drink water or juice!

I'm sharing my journal page spreads that I bulk make then privately journal all sorts of stuff a few times a week, this rhythm works out well for me. The fall stickers were gifted to me by my sister.

  1. I'm a coffee in the morning person. Sometimes I use artificial sweetener, sometimes I don't. Always a bit of skim milk. When I was pregnant I switched to decaf, but I honestly don't taste or feel a difference. I like tea, but in the morning it tends to make me feel sick to my stomach...just what I am accustomed to (or not) I think. Your journal pages are so pretty.

  3. Love that idea of seeking the change before it becomes a mandate. Hope these changes serve you well.

  4. I used to drink coffee in the morning but about five years ago it started making my stomach hurt. I quit and now just drink tea in the morning for the caffeine to wake me up. I usually drink it hot but sometimes have to add an ice cube or two if it's really hot in the summer. I try to cut back on the caffeine after noon so I can sleep.

  5. During the hot months (May through September) I drink cold water from the time I get up until I go to bed. In the cooler months (October through April) hot decaf tea is my morning beverage. My favorite tea is Good Earths Organic Sweet and Spicy. Very heavy on cinnamon , orange and clove. No need for any sweetener in it. I am allergic to caffeine so am very careful what I drink.

  6. I am not allowed caffeine for medical reasons so drink decaf tea with meals and ginger and lemon tea the rest of the day. I also drink a pint of tonic water a day to help ward off hot flushes. Jane

  7. Hi Karen,
...I love your little tea/coffee station...it's so neat...I have a couple of cups of water sometimes flavored with lemon or lime first thing in the morning with my vitamins...and then mid morning...about 8:30 or 9 AM I usually have a cup of coffee with the Man...who usually has one cup...down from a 12 cup a day habit a few years ago...haha...I have my coffee with stevia and almond/cashew milk...and then for the rest of the day I drink tea...regular old Liptons is my favorite...I guess because it's what I grew up with...but I love Earl Grey - also with cream and stevia...I gave up almost all sugar about 5 or 6 years ago...and as a result lost about 15 lbs...it was crazy because that was the only change I made...so I guess drinking 10-12 teaspoons of sugar a day will make you gain weight...who knew...haha...
    ~Have a lovely day!

  8. Good afternoon, Karen

In the mornings, I am a die-hard coffee drinker, though over the years I have cut my morning intake down to 1 mug. I never took sugar, but I like 10% coffee cream, just enough to take the bitter away.

I enjoy tea, but I associate it with quiet afternoons and my favourite is TAZO Chai Tea (but I have to admit I add a tsp of sugar & lots of 2% milk.

Your new house is shaping up nicely, btw! :)

  9. Hi Karen. I am not a coffee drinker and usually just have some some sort of juice based energy drink in the morning, but lately I have been trying pero with half and half on mornings when I feel like I would like a warm drink. As the weather cools, I will probably have this more often. I love your coffee/tea station and also your journal pages with those fun stickers. Hope you have a good weekend.

  10. I have 3 (small) cups of coffee each morning along with my breakfast and I take it black, no sugar. I rarely have any more during the day, though I drink a lot of water throughout the rest of the day. I’m curious about the tonic water for hot flashes JANE mentioned above…does that work?

  11. That baby sweater is looking cute already ! I am defenitely a coffee in the morning person. Although it is not the first thing I take. Usually I start with a glass of lukewarm water with some lemon juice in it ( one slice, pinched out ), then my breakfast and after that: coffee.

  12. Hi Karen! I have been seeking changes as well. I just bought a treadmill to use on days where the weather isn't conducive for a walk. Unfortunately, there were a lot of days this summer when I did not walk because of the heat and/or humidity. It was time to buckle down and figure out another way that would work for me. I am a dedicated tea drinker (black with a spoonful of sugar), except when I have a migraine: that's when I bring out the coffee. The caffeine boost really helps in minimizing the severity of my headache. : ). I hope you are having a great weekend!

  13. Karen, I used to drink SODA for breakfast. Ugh. THen I became a day shift nurse and 0500 was horrific untiI i met coffee with cream and sugar! Now I can get out of bed because of coffee. I dont use creamer and sugar. But the creamer has tons in it. I drink 2 cups then switch to decaf. I may drink One cup of decaf. I have come to enjoy the coffee so very much. THey better find out it is amazing for you.....

  14. I'm with Kathy. I can get out of bed because of coffee. I make mine 1/2 decaf so I can have a large cup. I cannot drink it without half-and-half, but I don't need sugar. It does make me a bit jittery, but I just deal with that. I am quite the coffee snob and have a strong preference for Peet's coffee, made with a simple plastic pour-over.

  15. The baby sweater looks so sweet. A couple times a week I drink two cups of decaf coffee with oat milk. This past April I had to give up decaf tea for health reasons. It was hard as I like the ritual of steeping loose tea but needs must. Sometimes I drink a cup of ginger or chamomile in the morning as I journal and write.

  16. I am a coffee drinker in the mornings and enjoy herbal tea and water later in the day. I can’t imagine my life without coffee, I started drinking coffee at a very young age and really don’t plan to stop. I love your journal pages 😊
