Can you believe the crazy weather these days? Yesterday was 80 degrees and today is going to be higher than that. It's too soon! My dogwoods are starting to bloom and it feels a bit early to me.
I've been thinking about how I give myself grace. Sure it's easy to give grace to others and it comes easily. I wonder why I'm so hard on myself especially if I am not feeling well. Living with a chronic autoimmune disorder (Sjogren's Syndrome) and trying to come up with the best ways to manage my symptoms and eliminate triggers, I lose sight on accepting my reality and just giving myself grace. After battling sinus issues for most of this week and a runny nose for three weeks, I saw my doctor and now have some medicines to get me back to feeling healthy. Phew!
I'm doing my best! So how do I give myself grace? Being mindful in each moment is helpful.
Journaling my thoughts, feelings and pouring my heart out onto the paper with a favorite fountain pen, the best free therapy ever. Knitting for others (and myself). Sitting down and resting, reading a good book and letting tasks sit idle for an hour or so.
I even took a nap (a rare event for me).
How do you show grace to yourself?
Those are great ways to show yourself grace! I'm glad you're doing it.
ReplyDeleteFor me it's an ongoing struggle, but I'm working on it.
I was just thinking that dogwoods might be blooming with this crazy weather, and sure enough, they are! I just checked the thermometer and it's 90 here. Storms and a return to seasonal temps can't come soon enough for me. I'm going to show myself some grace with an iced drink and winding yarn for socks.
ReplyDeleteThose are some good ideas Karen. I set myself a task of completing a few necessary chores, then stop and read or be more creative with Knitting or Crochet. Life gets so busy and overwhelming, it's not easy as it always feels wrong to me, doing craft during the day. If I can't justify it, I read instead.
ReplyDeleteHi Karen. Self-care is so important. We are having weather whiplash out here in Utah as well and I am still not completely 100% after Covid, so thanks for this reminder that I really need to slow down allow myself to rest and completely recover. I hope you have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou have some good thoughts here. Extending grace to one's self isn't always easy for me either. I am another who tries to accomplish one or two chores each day and then taking a little time to "be."
ReplyDeleteI give myself grace by telling myself to only focus on what is really important in the moment. I tend to start piling on all my to dos onto myself then I take a breath and say what has to be done now? I also like to take breaks by knitting, reading, and blogging.
ReplyDeleteI was diagnosed with Sjogrens last year. Do you have any tips for me on avoiding triggers etc?
ReplyDeletesun and being hot is the main trigger. Doing too much physically (or not moving at all) can set me off. I'm mainly battling severe dry mouth which really doesn't have a trigger that I can nail down.
DeleteThank you! Its still newish to me. I'm finding stress is a big trigger.
DeleteDawn, I too have Sjogren's with Sero-Neg RA. I do find stress is a HUGE trigger. Also, Karen said it well.....too much physical movement or not enough.....its a fine line.....
DeleteSorry to hear about your health issues, hope you are feeling better. I love the colour of your knitting - is it a scarf/shawl or a jumper ?
ReplyDeleteThat is a baby blanket for our granddaughter to be in August, sorry for not linking!
