Adjusting

Yesterday was our 37th wedding anniversary, time does fly! We went out for a celebration lunch before my appointment with the ortho doctor to recheck my cracked elbow. I am so excited that I am medically cleared to live my life, return to my exercise routine and I have a clean bill of health. I've found that when I exercise, I feel so much better and the past two weeks of 'just walking' isn't enough. I am grateful.

We are adjusting to our quiet house and our cat-only house. I drove to the kennel and the groomer to deliver cookies and thanked them for the way they loved Frodo. At home my husband and I continually are amazed at how much time we have gained without him. Such a weird state of existence. I have also gained a lot of brain space now that I am not worrying about him. He was declining in health since the end of May when he was hospitalized. We balanced hope and reality with each vet visit.

My classes start up in two weeks and I will be BUSY. Gah! I am excited to dive into another season of learning and socializing. Most of my classes are history and religious in nature, not to mention the wonderful Tai Chi class which is my favorite.

Slowly I've been knitting more and enjoying my knitting projects. I hope to get some grandchildren sweater knitting started in a few weeks. These sweaters will be for the holidays. I feel like I'm ahead of schedule with my gift knitting only because I have scaled back my gift knitting.

For fun, I started re-reading Wuthering Heights. I've read this book probably more than 7-8 times and it is my all time favorite. I love how emo and angsty it is and of course the rude behavior of most of the characters. So charming and funny.

  1. Happy Anniversary!! And YAY for a. very good doctor visit. That's such good news. You know, I can't believe I've never read Wuthering Heights (or Jane Eyre for that matter!!). Maybe I will this winter. I finished one book last night and picked up 2 books at the library yesterday, so I think I am set for the weekend.

  3. Happy Anniversary! It amazed me how quiet the house was when the kids went to college and moved out, and it's probably even more so with just the two of you and Holly. I don't think I've ever read Wuthering Heights but it sounds intriguing!

  4. Happy Anniversary! I really don't like the quietness of the house... I think of you often. Also... your hydrangea is just gorgeous!

  5. Anniversary Blessings! Going from 2 dogs to 1 was a huge difference in noise and time spent with the geriatric fur baby. Alas, our remaining pup is starting to sliw down as he is a geriatric pup now. Glad to hear you have a clean bill of health now. Where are you taking classes at? Tai chi is so good for a body. Wish we had classes here. I would join them.

  6. Same here on the intensive care giving, but we don't really mind because we love them so.

  7. Your pictures are wonderful, Karen. I enjoyed seeing a bit more of your home in the last picture. Looks so inviting and cozy. Life after a beloved pet passes is an adjustment for certain. Prayers continue.

  8. Happy Anniversary. Hurrah for a clean bill of health. I'm sure it feels good to slowly ease back into your exercise routine. Tai Chi sounds so wonderful. For a number of years, I attended a yoga class and really enjoyed it. Have fun picking out yarn and patterns for grandchildren sweaters.

  9. Happy anniversary! It’s hard to loose our fur babies but I totally get what you are saying. I haven’t read Wuthering Heights in years … maybe I will put that on my list to read this year.

  10. Happy Anniversary! I don't think of this time as a "wedding time" of year, and yet ... I know four couples celebrating anniversaries, and friends are in Greece this week to celebrate the wedding of their son. Wuthering Heights is one I've never read, and your recommendation is high praise. I'm not in the mood right this second for angsty emo, but I could be come January?!
