August

Hello! How are you?

We made it to August - one month closer to Autumn and for some much needed cooler weather. I've had a rough week with the heat and the humidity. My body just doesn't like it. I've spent more time in the house than outside the house trying to keep myself cool, relaxed and feeling my best. As I sit here in my kitchen typing this up, it is raining (yay).

I started writing out my Christmas knitting list. After last year's epic arthritis flare from manic gnome knitting, I'm paring down the amount I knit and also triaging the list. I am ready to strike off knitted gifts if I just can't do it.

My mother (God rest her soul) would ask for a Christmas list by September 1st. I thought she was crazy when I was a kid, who is thinking about Christmas when it's hot outside! Now, here I am doing my thinking in August, I'm sure the crazy gene runs in the family. Although in my defense, I am not asking anyone for a Christmas list.

Besides some simply knitted ornaments, I'd like to knit each grandchild a sweater. I have two pairs of socks I would like to knit and gift as well (one pair is currently on the needles). That leaves room for knitting more if I want to knit more.

In other news, the butterfly bushes are blooming and the butterflies are visiting. When I'm doing the dishes and look out the kitchen window, I see them, run outside, snap a photo, then get back to the dishes. I complain about summer, but the butterflies make me fleetingly love August and make me present in the every day moments I do not want to forget.

How is your mid summer going? What are you looking forward to?

  1. Today is beastly! It was in the upper 70s at 6:30 and hazy, hot & humid. I had hoped to walk, but I won't do it in this weather. I have one more row to knit on the Shakerag skirt, then I will bind it off, give it a soak and block it and then add the elastic at the waist. So close!!!

  2. We have an abundant butterfly bush this year as well! With volumes of butterflies *and* hummingbirds! It makes the clean up portions of the day just so delightful! May the rain stay with us this weekend!

  4. It's been a rough week here too. When the barometric pressure is up the joints feel it immensely. Only problem is that the rains that caused that happen all around us, but we don't get the rain. Glad you got some rain though.

I'm looking forward to autumn 🍂🍁

  7. I have seen two similar butterflies on my small butterfly bush. They are so beautiful and you have captured the beauty in your photos. It's been a rough hot week here with a dilly of a storm. I am currently knitting a pair of socks for my daughter for Christmas. You won't see them on my blog because she reads the blog. A pair of socks is not a big surprise for her but still. Getting a handle on Christmas gifts now sounds like my kind of crazy.

  8. The crazy gene?? - that made me smile!! My mom used to make us laugh when she would ask "so, what would you like for dinner" before we had even finished lunch. Or breakfast!! Cooking for us was her love language and she was always thinking of the next meal to prepare!!

  9. My butterfly bush is blooming, but I can't really see it from my windows. Those butterflies are so pretty. I am not enjoying the high heat and humidity at all this year. Even my 30 something daughter says that it feels worse than when she was younger. Except for two Christmas ornaments, I have now Christmas crafting planned. I would like to knit a sweater for my daughter, but I would have to tell her about it as I need a size. I always ask my children for Christmas ideas, but not quite this early. Maybe I should get a head start.

  10. Flowers are beautiful. It's supposed to be cooler this week. Having a plan for holiday gifts sounds like a great idea. I have cut way down from what I used to do...and it feels ok. :)O
