Focus
Good morning! How are you doing today? This past week I've been reflecting on my focus. What do I focus on and is it something I want to focus on. I've made a strong effort to prune away my wayward attention span. Of course it's a work in progress, but I'm happy with the progress I've made so far.
I get sidetracked by current events or 'interesting ideas' where I fall down a rabbit hole of researching on the internet and then find out that time has slipped away. I've become purposeful on how I focus and what I focus on each day.
The more technology advances to help us with our life, the more tangled it becomes on what is important to focus on and what is not important to focus on. Each day, I write what I want to accomplish. That helps set the tone of my focused attention.
Anyways, this is what I've been thinking about.
You know what I love to focus on? My knitting which by the way has made significant progress. I hope to finish the baby blanket today. Whoop! I am enjoying my current reads: Glory over Everything, Digital Minimalism, and Raven Black. I try to read a bit of The Artist's Way as well a few times a week. Because I have so many books going at the same time, I'm not really finishing any in a timely manner.
We had beautiful weather earlier this week only to watch a cold front barrel in and turn everything cold with snow flurries. My daily walk yesterday was BRISK. Each day that comes and goes, is one day closer to spring. We can do it, we can get there.
Holly continues to be Queen of the castle. I continue to show up in my Nature journal once a week (such a doable goal!!).
What is your focus on? What have you pruned away?
I am on this path with you. I have been setting my computer aside for most of the day this week and have found myself immersed in a quilt top that has brought me so much peace. The bulbs are popping up here too.
ReplyDeleteIt is tough to focus but it sounds like you're doing a good job working on it. Holly is a perfect loaf!
ReplyDeleteOh, I can relate! It is wonderful to be able to do so much research from a computer or even a phone, but it can be such a rabbit hole... I fondly remember going to the library for things like that and taking four books (or even more if I was allowed to) on a specific subject home. People thought that was weird, but it was a lot easier to focus and actually learn something.
ReplyDeleteFor me, right now, the hard part is to decide what to focus on. My mind is very scattered. But less internet is definitely helping. That blanket looks great!
Hello! I love this post. I need to watch what I focus on as well. I am easily distracted and sometimes upset by current events and politics - things over which I really have no control. I think I a need to slow down and look at the things that are really important day-to-day. Thanks for a thought-provoking post. I love your blanket!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, when I only used my lap top, I was on it a lot less. Since using a smart phone, I'm constantly looking things up and diving down rabbit holes. I set limits at 15 mins at a time for both Facebook and Instagram. I find myself (instead) scrolling throw Youtube or watching subscribed channels. Thanks for raising this subject, I think I need to set better boundaries... again.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a Lent KAL, so I'll be giving it some thought x
Oh, yes, I do think that modern technology does take away quite some focus. Yet I seem to be addicted to it... So I will try to focus on not using it too much. Lately, with all that is going on, both in the world and personal, I also try to focus on the good things.
ReplyDeleteHolly is so adorable! I agree with contemplating focus... our lives are full of distractions! The one thing that is absolutely sure to keep my focus is my stitching this year!
ReplyDeleteI'm usually on my laptop during the day. I don't go off topic and look up other things usually.
ReplyDeleteSuch a worthwhile goal and pursuit. I think I have done rather well (okay) with pruning timewasters from my day....but have not found too many worthwhile things to focus on with the extra time. A bit discouraging but I don't want to simply waste my time. Good food for thought today - thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe Healthy Knitter just wrote a blog post on attention that reminds me of what you have written. This month I set an intention to "live" each day and and so that has had some of my focus. Holly is indeed a beauty. And so is that baby blanket.
ReplyDeleteHolly is such a pretty cat. She is adorable!! I have not thought of focusing on anything! I just go about my days enjoying them as they unfold.
ReplyDeletei'm trying to avoid pointless scrolling on my phone. so easy to fall down that rabbit hole. the time I save can then be directed to focus on my knitting and actually finishing projects!
ReplyDeleteI've also been being for vigilant about my focusing, Karen. Like you said, it's a work in progress, but I'm definitely seeing a change.
ReplyDeleteHope you are doing well. xx
I've been setting aside a lot of social media and it's given me more time to read, reflect, and just be (with a lot less noise).
ReplyDeleteI have too much going on.. too many people dependant on me. It's not always easy to stay on task. Nice that you are finding focus.
